Only having an ID is not enough to cast your vote

Simply having an electoral photo identification card (EPIC) will not give you the right to cast your vote in the upcoming elections.
Anil Kumar Jha, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Karnataka, on Monday said citizens possessing an EPIC but not having their names on the relevant electoral roll will not be allowed to vote.

“…Sometimes people believe they are entitled to vote in the general elections if they have an EPIC, and do not bother to check if their names are on the rolls. But we published the revised ones at the taluk office, the ward office and the CEO’s website – – on January 31. People are requested to check if their names are there,” said Jha in a press note.

Jha warned that a name could be rub out if a person does not live at the address provided. “So it is important that this be checked and a fresh form (No 6) filled to provide the present address in order to
