One more woman succumbs to Swine Flu in city

The dreaded Swine Flu disease has surfaced again in the State. As the climate was congenial to the spread of Swine Flu virus, more and more people were falling a prey to the deadly disease and many were dying after prolonged medical treatment.

 

On Friday, a housewife of Bahadurpura in the Old City succumbed to swine flu at the Gandhi Hospital Secunderabad here on Friday taking the toll due to the disease in the State to 10 since August last. A Health official said the deceased was undergoing treatment since January 16. It is the fourth death due to swine flu in the hospital since January 1. Curiously, all the victims were women.

Gandhi Hospital Superintendent Dr Venkateshwar Reddy said a special ward was opened for the Swine Flu patients in the hospital. He attributed the rise in swine flu cases to cold weather.

According to officials concerned, a total of 3,033 samples were tested from August 1 last to January 18. Of these, 152 samples were found positive. On Wednesday, six of the 43 cases tested were found positive. The Health department has asked the people to approach hospitals at the onset of the first symptoms of swine flu like high fever, sneezing, cough and body ache. (NSS)
