One sadhu shot dead, another injured

Ludhiana: A 55-year-old ‘sadhu’ was shot dead tonight and another injured after a group of people opened fire upon them near Sidhwan canal near here, police said.

Bhupinder Singh died while Ranjit Singh Dhandriwala was injured in the firing, Assistant Commissioner of Police Surinder Mohan said.

The two sadhus were returning in a car after a religious ceremony at Isewal village on the outskirts of Ludhiana, he said.

The victims along with others were moving in four cars when they were stopped at Sidhwan canal by people attired in blue clothes, Mohan said.

The group of people fired bullets, used baseball bats and swords to attack the two, the ACP said.

As a case had been registered in the matter, he said.

Police is investigating the matter and no one has been arrested so far.
