BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya on Saturday kicked up a controversy saying that Dalit PhD scholar Rohith Vemula was not that weak to have committed suicide.
“I am ashtonished that he stood against execution of terrorist and even offered Namaz for him. One who publicly announced to organized beef parties and who said that he feels like tearing off Bhagwa whenever he sees saffron flag was not weak to suicide”, he said in ABP News Program Press Conference.
“A youth who had zeal to swim against the tide could not have committed suicide just because of his expulsion from the hostel,” he said
“Those who are opposing hanging of terrorists, those who say that they would arrange beef party and those who opposed Yakub Memon’s hanging, such people are deserved to commit suicide”, he added.
He blamed the protesting students at the Hyderabad Central University for the suicide of Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula.
It is to be noted that the 26-year-old scholar committed suicide early last week, a fortnight after he and four other researchers were expelled from the university hostel in connection with an alleged case of assault.
Asked about Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi taking part in the agitation over Rohith’s death, Vijaywargiya said, “Politics should not be done on the issue. Our political rivals are unable to digest that under Modi’s leadership, the country’s stature is rising in the world and therefore they are indulging in such acts.”
