One more youth dies in the valley

Srinagar, September 12: Yet another youth, injured in alleged police firing, succumbed to injuries at a hospital here today taking the number of lives claimed by the current wave of violence in the Valley to 71.

Mohammad Ashraf Mir, hit by a bullet in the neck, was declared dead after doctors took him off the life support system to assess his condition at Soura’s SKIMS hospital, the sources said.

A resident of Palhallan, Mir was injured on September six in a firing in Pattan area of Baramulla district in which four persons had been killed and nearly a dozen wounded.

With his death, the toll in the ongoing unrest in the Valley has risen to 71 since June 11 when it was first rocked by violent protests after the killing of 17-year-old Tufail Ahmad Matoo by a teargas shell at Rajouri Kadal in the city.
