After the occurrence of the shameful acts of dowry harassments in Moinabad, Chatri Naka and Kala Pattar, another such incident took place in Chaderghat area where a recently wed bride immolated herself and died.
It is reported that Ms. Ambreen Fatima (19) got married on 24th May 2012. She burnt herself pouring kerosene on her body. She died in the hospital yesterday. Ms Ambreen got married to Sheikh Zubair of New Malakpet, Kala Dera. The sources indicated that at the time of marriage, bride’s father Mr. Haroon gave three tola gold, Rs 50 thousand cash, necessary articles and a motor cycle. In addition to it, the parents of the bride lent Rs. One lakh to meet valima expenses hosted by groom’s family. Zubair works as a receptionist in a hospital. According to the statement madeby the relatives of the bride, the relatives of her husband used to harass her. Sometimes ,they used to comment on her health and at some other time on some other issues.
Bride’s relatives alleged that Sheikh Zubair and his parents used to harass the bride for getting some more dowry. Vexed up with all these harassments, the girl resorted to this extreme step of burning herself. The relatives of the bride alleged that she gave a statement to the magistrate that she didn’t know who set the fire. She said that she was given a tin of kerosene and she was forced to pour it on her body. However, police didn’t confirm this statement.
Inspector of police Chaderghat Mr Nayeemuddin Javeed told that police registered a case after the death of the girl and investigations are in progress.
