HYDERABAD: One person was killed and four others injured when a SUV ran amok in the busy Madhapur area in Hyderabad on Saturday evening.
The vehicle, being driven at a high speed by a person who was allegedly drunk, hit two cars and four wheelers before coming to a halt.
Police said a person lost his life and four others were injured. They were taken to a hospital.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 7am.
The accident occurred on Ayappa Society road in Madhapur, a busy area in the information technology hub.
People thrashed the man who was driving the vehicle under alleged influence of alcohol before handing him over to the police.
A police officer said Basant, who was driving the vehicle, was working as assistant manager in Krishnapatnam Port.
This was the second accident in a day in Hyderabad. Earlier, two cars collided in posh Jubliee Hills area. There were no casualties but both vehicles were badly damaged. A person, who was driving one of the cars, was found drunk.
The same area had witnessed a car crash on May 10, killing son of a cabinet minister of Andhra Pradesh and his friend.
The accident had occurred around at around 3 am and the victims died on the spot. CCTV footage showed that the car was going at an extremely high speed.
It was also reported that three challans of over-speeding were pending against the Mercedes Benz G63 AMG car.
However, the police told reporters after the post-mortem that the two people were not drunk.
Saturday’s accidents occurred a day after three graduates of IIT Kharagpur were killed when the car they were travelling in overturned on Outer Ring Road on city outskirts.
