Hyderabad, August 19: A woman was killed and 35 others fell ill after consuming spurious toddy at Rajendranagar area on the city outskirts, police said today.
Several residents of Rajendranagar, Attapur, Upparpalli and Gaganpahad localities consumed the toddy (country liquor obtained from toddy trees) last night, police said.
Those who consumed the toddy, however, started behaving abnormally like laughing or crying continuously, they said.
The police later shifted the victims to Osmania General Hospital where a woman, identified as Shantamma of Gaganpahad, died.
The excise officials rushed to the spot where toddy was being sold illegally. However, no one was arrested in this regard as yet.
