Sanaa, April 27: At least one person has been killed and 10 others injured after Yemeni security forces opened fire on anti-government protesters in the country, witnesses say.
The protesters, who insist on the ouster of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, gathered for a second day in the southern cities of Taizz and Aden on Tuesday, the opposition said.
Protests have also been held in the capital Sana’a and several more cities.
Tens of thousands of people kept up their sit-in at the main square in the capital, although Yemeni troops used live ammunition against them.
People in Yemen have turned out for regular demonstrations since late January, calling for corruption and unemployment to be tackled and demanding that Saleh step down after nearly 33 years in power.
According to local sources, hundreds of people have been killed and many others have been injured during clashes with riot police and forces loyal to the Yemeni president armed with batons, knives, and clubs.
