One injured in blast near Line of Control in Kashmir

Srinagar, August 30: One person was injured when an explosive device went off near Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector in north Kashmir, official sources said here today.

They said one Nazir Ahmad was cutting grass near LoC at Churanda in Uri sector when suddenly the explosive device, reportedly land mine, went off.

He was critically wounded and was later hospitalised, they said.

The entire area near the LoC in Uri and other sectors were mined to prevent infiltration from across the border during 90s. During earlier wars of 1965 and 1971 land mines had been planted to foil the forward movement of Pakistan soldiers in these sectors.

However, despite ceasefire, thousands of land mines remained planted in border areas, resulting in accidents.

Several people had died while hundreds lost their arms or legs in these blasts in the border areas in the past.
