One held for theft of hacking email address

Case of Identity theft by hacking the email address, creating fake facebook profile and sending abusive/defamatory messages. The accused Nagaboina Naveen Babu, former employee of Halcrow Consulting India Pvt. Ltd., hacked her gmail account, obtained the email addresses of her friends & relatives, and sent emails to them with abusive content with an intention to blemish her character. He also created a fake facebook profile on the complainant’s name, posted her picture and sent add requests to her friends. Further, through various mobile numbers he sent abusive & threatening SMSs and demanded One lakh rupees from her.

On May 14, a woman from Madhapur lodged a complaint stating that since March 23, she has been receiving calls and abusive messages to her mobile from numbers not known to her. Further, her gmail account was hacked and personal details changed. He also sent abusive emails blemishing her character from the email id: naveenbabu123@gmail.com to the email addresses present in her email account. The complainant’s friends informed her about the abusive emails they received. The accused also created a fake facebook profile on the complainant’s name, posted her picture and sent add requests to her friends and relatives. Her colleagues also received SMSs from the accused late in the nights. He further demanded (01) Lakh rupees to delete the profile. She expressed suspicion on Naveen Babu, ex-employee of her company.

Case was registered in Cyber Crime PS, Cyberabad u/s 66 (A, C & D) IT Act & 384 IPC and during the course of investigation, the role of the accused Naveen Babu was established through the Call Detail Records from Mobile service providers and IP logs from Facebook. The accused was apprehended at Madhapur on June 4 when the accused came to meet the complainant to collect money that he demanded after a trap was laid on the guise of payment of money and on interrogation, he confessed to have done the offence with an intention to trouble the complainant and to extort money.
