A 15-year-old tribal girl was allegedly gangraped by a gang of four youth in Thane district’s Wada taluka on Sunday night, a report to the district headquarters said today. Police said that Ravindra Mukne, one of the accused in the case, has been arrested by the police and three others who have been detained, are being interrogated by the Wada police. The victim, who has been shifted from the Wada rural hospital to the Thane district civil hospital, is the daughter of an adivasi brick kiln worker in Kharivali village at Wada taluka. The incident occured when she went to a circus on Sunday night with some neighbours, including an 18-year-old boy, whose family did not approve of their friendship. She returned at around 9pm and after dinner, went to relieve herself outside, when the boy’s brother Ravindra Mukane and three of his friends dragged her to a field 30 metres away. “They hit her with bricks when she resisted and after she lost unconsciousness, they raped her and abandoned her,” the police said. She was found unconscious in the field the next morning and rushed to the hospital. The shocked girl managed to tell her parents about the incident only on Wednesday, after which Ravindra was arrested, the police said. The accused have been booked under Section 336 A (abducting a minor for forced sex) and Section 376 G (gangrape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). PTI
