One dies as boat capsizes at sea

Srikakulam, May 19: A fisherman died when a country-made boat capsized in sea off the coast of Battigalluru village in Sompeta mandal of the district on Wednesday due to strong gale and high-tide According to villagers, 40-year-old P Jogarao, accompanied by Madhava Rao and D Dharmaraju of Battigallu village on Wednesday went to sea for fishing in the countrymade boat.

While trying to sail through the high-tide area to go deep into the sea, they lost control over the boat due to strong wind and the boat turned upside down.

As they tried to swim across to the coast, Jogarao’s legs were entangled in the rope and net meant for fishing. Madhava and Dharmaraju reached the shore safely and informed the villagers about the mishap.

The villagers then rushed to sea to rescue Jogarao but found his body trapped in.

According to villagers, Jogarao was planning to migrate to Hyderabad in search of livelihood due to the ban on fishing here.

A pall of gloom descended on fishermen villages of Sompeta which are already in distress due to the ban.

Jogarao is survived by his wife Nookamma and three children.
