One dead, several fell ill due to food poisoning in Old City

One person died and three others are in a serious condition besides 20 others taken ill due to alleged food poisoning after they consumed some eatables in a bakery in the old city.
Over 29 people, mostly women and children, fell ill after consuming mouth watering burger purchased from a bakery at Hafeezbabanagar. Officials said of the victims, 20 were admitted to Fever Hospital and another nine are undergoing treatment at Community Health Center in Barkas.
The victims said they ate chicken burger and pastries three days ago and soon fell sick. Qasim, a plumber from Hafeezbabanagar said he purchased chicken burgers on Saturday and after consuming it six of his family members complained of vomiting and diarrhoea. They visited Barkas Hospital for treatment. Dr. Rajeev, Superintendent, Barkas Community Hospital, said seven persons were admitted to the hospital while four others were referred to Fever Hospital for further treatment. Besides, a few others left after taking medicines, he said.
On receipt of the infomation, GHMC officials rushed to the spot and sealed the bakery after collecting samples. Assistant Medical and Health Officer, Circle IV, Dr Venkata Ramana said they would send the food samples to the laboratory for examination and take action based on the report. (NSS)
