Ahmedabad, August 29: A man was arrested here today in connection with the death of three persons due to consumption of a chemical for ecstasy purpose, a crime branch official said.
The arrested, who allegedly sold the substance to victims, was identified as Zakir alias Shabbir Hussain, he said.
“We have arrested one person, who is apparently involved in selling of the chemical which was consumed by some persons yesterday,” a senior official in the crime branch told.
The official said that the investigation is underway and police are likely to arrest few more persons.
A group of people consumed the chemical yesterday as an ecstasy of which three died yesterday, police said.
Four others were hospitalised in V S Hospital in the city, they said.
The state Director General of Police (DGP) SS Khandwawala had ruled out that group consumed hooch, saying ethyl alcohol was not found in the blood and urine samples of those who died or hospitalised.
Meanwhile, Police Inspector of Gaekwad Haveli police station, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place, has been transferred, sources said.
