Thane: The Thane police in Maharashtra has arrested another person in connection with the petrol pilferage racket that came to light last month.
Prakash Nulkar, who once worked at a company which made the fuel dispensing machines installed at petrol pumps, was arrested from Hubli in Karnataka yesterday, police said.
Earlier, police had arrested 23 persons including two pump owners in the case after raiding over 90 petrol pumps across Maharashtra.
The accused replaced the IC (integrated circuit) chips installed in the dispensing machines. The new chip ensured that the quantity of petrol dispensed would be a little less than what the display panel on the machine showed.
Thane police commissioner Parambir Singh told reporters today that the city crime branch sleuths arrested Nulkar from Hubli. The investigators got a lot of information about the modus operandi from him, Singh said.
Further probe is on.
