Hyderabad, January 12: In view of cases of cheating of migrant laborers by the brokers, the State government was extending assistance to them in passport and visa processing and air ticketing through Overseas Manpower Company Andhra Pradesh Limited (OMCAP) to curb the illegal practices”, said the Minister for Labor, Mr Danam Nagender.
The Minister held a meeting with the Directors of OMCAP in his chamber in the Secretariat on Tuesday.
Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, Mr Nagender said that the State government has taken special measures for the welfare of the migrant laborers working in the Middle East countries. A lot of works of infrastructure development like roads and buildings were going on in those countries needing skilled manpower. A delegation from a Middle East country also met him and explained the opportunities available for the people in their countries, he claimed.
The Minister said that an “overseas employee’s workshop” would be held on February 21 and 22 in the city to create awareness among them. A 24 X 7 Service Centre of Migrant Resource Center was also functioning in the State. An awareness programme on irregular migration would be taken up soon. In association with the Union Ministry of Indian Affairs, the Labour department will take up skill updation programme to housewives leaving for overseas, he added.
Mr Nagender reminded that OMCAP has placed 1,500 candidates in the Middle East and Egypt. In all, 6,410 candidates were provided orientation skills on overseas education, he added. The Migrant Resource Center with helpline no. 155330 was also operational providing assistance to overseas migrant workers and addressing complaints and issues, he added.
