Hyderabad, June 15: Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy of the AP High Court on Monday refused to vacate the stay granted by the court on the investigations into the allegations of illegal mining by Obulapuram Mining Corporation.
It may be recalled that the OMC challenged the reference to CBI as without jurisdiction and also as one more in the nature of a civil dispute and therefore not to be investigated by the CBI.
In March the High Court stayed the investigation. Justice Reddy who heard the matter refused to vacate the stay granted and directed the case to be heard finally and till then investigations will be stayed.
Kamineni, Wockhardt hsopitals dispute
Justice GV Seethapathy of the AP High Court on Monday ordered notice in the petition filed for sorting out disputes between Wockhardt and Kamineni Hospitals.
Wockhardt earlier filed an application for injunction restraining the Kamineni Hospital management from interfering in the management of Wockhardt-Kamineni Hospital at King Koti. The petition was dismissed.
The foreign collaborating Wockhardt issued a notice to Kamineni for appointment of an Arbitrator on Jan 6 to look into the disputes between the parties based on agreement between the parties entered into on May 19, 2005. Wockhardt had even named a retired judge of the Supreme Court as its Arbitrator.
Kamineni Hospitals refused to go to `arbitration’ on the ground that there were no `disputes between the parties.’ In the present petition Wockhardt stated that there were pending disputes between the parties. The petition put the disputed amount at Rs. 246 crore.
Kokapet lands: Judge allows some more claims
Justice L Narasimha Reddy of the AP High Court on Monday allowed some more claims for return of amounts connected with the Kokapet lands. It may be recalled that earlier the judge allowed claims of persons to the tune of about Rs. 400 crore to be returned by the state. This time the state government took the services of Attorney General Ghulam Vahanvati who informed the court of the earlier judgment. The judge accordingly allowed the present cases which would require the exchequer to return about Rs. 40 crore to the petitioners.
HC serves notice to DGP, govt on suicides
A Division bench of the AP High Court comprising Chief Justice Nissar Ahmed Kukru and Justice J Vilas Afzalpurkar today served notices to the DGP and the state government in a public interest writ petition complaining that both media and politicians were taking advantage of suicides in the state.
Dr J Prabhakar, a practicing doctor, in a letter, which the bench treated as the petition, complained that the suicides committed are becoming instrument of exploitation by both media and the politicians.
The media. especially the electronic media is giving gory details of the suicides in their repetitive bulletins.
The politicians are exploiting the suicides by giving political colour to them. The Bench gave time to the government to respond.
A petition similar in nature was also filed in the High Court complaining that the media being insensitive to the human loss and suffering.
Justice T Gopalakrishna earlier injunctured TV channels and a contempt petition charging violation of the court orders is also pending in the Court.
