Omar meets Iceland minister, holds discussions

Srinagar, April 27: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and visiting Iceland Foreign Minister Ossor Skakrphedinsson today discussed a number of issues, including harnessing of thermal energy, tourism and climate change.

Skakrphedinsson, on a two-day visit to the state along with Iceland Ambassador to India Erickson, held discussions on various matters pertaining to the harnessing of thermal energy, tourism, climate change and other developmental sectors in an hour-long meeting, an official spokesman said.

Omar apprised the foreign dignitaries about the rich hydro electric, thermal and other non-conventional energy potential of the state.

They showed keen interest in the new initiatives taken by the state’s coalition government for generation of hydro electric energy and harnessing new and renewable energy resources, he said.

“The visitors also evinced interest in the measures taken for capacity building and skills development in youth and efforts for restoring the state’s pristine tourism glory,” the spokesman said.
