Omar expresses joy over Farooq Abdullah’s successful kidney transplant

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday expressed his joy over the successful kidney transplant of his father and former state chief Farooq Abdullah and thanked everyone for their blessings.

“Dad and mum’s surgery was a success and the new kidney has started functioning. My family joins me in thanking all of U for yr support and prayer,” tweeted Omar.

The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister had earlier said his thoughts were with his parents who are undergoing an organ transplant in the UK.

“My thoughts are with my parents as they both prepare for surgery today. I wish I could be there with them, but that wasn’t to be,” he tweeted yesterday.

Earlier in the day, Farooq Abdullah underwent a successful kidney transplant operation in London. According to reports, Farooq’s wife had donated her kidney for the surgery.

The National Conference leader could not take part in his party’s poll campaign for the state assembly elections, as he had been ailing for some time and was under treatment in England.

Jammu and Kashmir recorded a 49 percent voter turnout in the fourth phase of assembly elections that involved 18 seats.

The final phase of the state assembly polls will take place on December 20, with the counting of the votes scheduled to take place on December 23.
