Omar blames Mehbooba for curfew-like restrictions in Budgam

Jammu: Blaming PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti for imposition of curfew-like situation in Budgam today, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the direction in which the state was headed would be “dangerous” for it.

“What (imposition of curfew-like restrictions) has happened in Budgam today… Has been done on the direction of Mehbooba Mufti.

“It proves that if such a decision is being taken by Mehbooba ji than Chief Minister Mufti Sahib, then it is difficult to save the state,” Omar told reporters here tonight.

Curfew-like restrictions were imposed in Budgam town of central Kashmir in view of apprehensions of law and order problems on the death anniversary of National Conference MLA Aga Roohullah’s father, Aga Syed Mehdi.

Earlier, a National Conference spokesman has claimed that Roohullah, who represents Budgam constituency in the state assembly, has been placed under house arrest.

Omar said “I cannot understand the aim to stop them and later imposing curfew there. On one side the CM is saying it is battle of ideas, –neither grenades nor bullets, but dialogue will resolve the problems…”

“But here an elected member was not allowed to observe the death anniversary of his father. What type of democracy is this? What type of the ideology is this? On one side you are drawing crowds for the PM’s rally, and on other side you are not allowing people to celebrate their private function. This cannot be allowed to continue,” he said.

“CM will have to think on it very seriously on what type of the situation are they creating and the direction in which the state is going would be dangerous for the state,” he said.

On the reports of Mehbooba replacing Mufti as CM, Omar said “Mubarak (Congrats) let she become the CM.”

“This uncertainty is not going to help anybody. Officers will have to accept the command of one…Today, officers and Ministers are worried. Whether they will salute the present CM (Mufti) or the coming CM (Mehbooba).”

“Whose command they will accept. It is better Mufti Sayeed and Mehbooba Ji should decide whom to sit on the Chair of CM. If they reach to a decision it should be acted upon.”

Omar said this uncertainty is not good for J&K.

“If they are not for change of guard, then Mufti and Mehbooba should come in open and say that there is no change of guard … As this uncertainty is not good for J&K,” he said.
