Oman to open tourism offices in several countries

Muscat, May 19: In a new major push to attract tourists, Oman plans to set up representative offices in several countries soon.

The first to open will be in Moscow, Tourism Under-secretary Mohammed bin Hamoud Al Toobi said, adding that the target markets would be Russia and the neighbouring countries.

“We also plan to open tourism offices in China, Japan and India as part of our intensified efforts to woo holidaymakers to the sultanate,” he further said. He was talking to reporters at the opening of ‘Oman Travel Market 2010’ (OTM) here on Monday.

The fair, at the Oman International Exhibition Centre, was inaugurated by Commerce and Industry Ministry Under-secretary for Financial and Administrative Affairs Ahmed bin Sulaiman Al Maimani.

OTM is Oman’s largest annual tourism show and this year it has attracted 30 tour companies and hotels from Oman, Italy, Turkey, Germany, Indonesia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, India and Iran.
