Old City girl accuses parents of allegedly forcing her marriage with Sudanese national

The Kanchanbagh police registered a case under Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act and launched an investigation into the complaint made by a girl who alleged that her parents performed her marriage without her consent with a Sudanese national a week ago.

In her complaint made to the police the girl stated that her father, Mohd Akbar, a businessman, along with one of her relative and a broker married her to a Saudi national Basheer Ashraf in Nagpur in 2012 after taking two lakhs. The man divorced her a few months later after paying two lakhs more.

Later, the girl alleged that she was taken to Mumbai on two different occasions and handed over two different persons who stayed with her for a few days and went away. Also the victim claimed that in 2013 her aunt Meher unnisa, took her to Pune and married her to Jamal, an NRI from London after taking Rs. 30,000.
The girl maintained that she escaped from her house two days ago after her father performed her marriage to a Sudanese national on Feb. 14 and was planning to send her along with him.
The police who picked up a few persons including her family members are in a dilemma about the exact age of the girl. While the girl in her complaint mentioned her age as 17 years her family members told the police that the girl is above 18 years of age.

When contacted Kanchabagh police station Inspector, Syed Jahangir said that the police registered a case under section 4 and 5 of Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act. “We are verifying the contents of the complaint and will soon make arrest,” Kanchanbagh Inspector Jahangir said. (INN)
