OGH shifting: patients protest, burqa-clad pregnant woman falls unconscious

Keeping in view the precarious condition of Osmania Hospital building the government has started shifting the patients of Sultan Bazar Maternity Hospital to the Petlaburj Maternity Hospital. On receipt of the information the patients of Sultan Bazar Maternity Hospital panicked; a wave of concern gripped among the attendants of the patients. Expressing ire over shifting of patients, the patients of Sultan Bazar Hospital condemned the move by the government and staged sit-in against government’s decision. Pregnant women took to streets protesting against the decision which led to traffic disruption for hours. Meanwhile a burqa-clad woman fell unconscious.

The Telangana government on Wednesday had announced that in-patients from Osmania General Hospital (OGH) would be moved to Sultan Bazar Maternity Hospital (SBMH) while patients from maternity hospital would be, in turn, shifted to the Petlaburj Maternity Hospital.

Protesting the decision hospital doctors also did not operate outpatient services for a while. The matter was resolved only after hospital administration including Superintendent K. Sudha Rani managed to convince senior doctors to start working in the vital outpatient wings for the sake of expectant women. Opposing the move the patients claimed that they will now be forced to travel for at least six more kilometres.
