Odisha Governor receives threat letter

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor S C Jamir today received a threat letter purportedly from Maoists, asking him to quit the office within a fortnight.

Claiming themselves as cadre of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), the signatories of the letter, Ravinda Verma and Mantu, also threatened to blow up the Raj Bhawan.

The Raj Bhawan, which received the letter today, handed it over to the police. The Commissionerate of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, confirmed receipt of the threat letter.

“We are examining the letter. If required, the police will register a case in this regard,” a senior police officer told PTI.

The Odisha Police contacted its Jharkhand counterpart to ascertain the identity of the duo. They informed the Odisha Police that similar threat letters were also sent to some VVIPs by the same persons.

The letter was written in Hindi, the officer said.
