OC employees oppose quota in promotions

Hyderabad, June 29: The Electricity OC Employees Association has urged the government to scrap reservation for SC and ST employees in promotions and give the promotions according to seniority.

In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy here today, association’s president G Karunakar Reddy and State Electricity OC Employees Welfare Association president R Sudhakar Reddy said reservation in promotions was against the orders of the Supreme Court. As such, promotions already given to SC and ST employees on the basis of reservation should be withdrawn, they pleaded.

“SC and ST employees are abusing the Atrocities Prevention Act and tormenting OC employees,’’ they said and requested the chief minister that a case should be booked under the Act only after a departmental inquiry. They wanted the government to accord recognition to their organisation and to allot land for housing their office.

BCs’ PLEA: Meanwhile, State BC Samkshema Sangham president R Krishnaiah has alleged that BCs were being given a raw deal in the postings of CE, SE and others in Genco, Transco and Discoms.

BC leaders met the chief minister at his camp office and submitted a memorandum to him. They alleged that BCs were not getting even 10 pc representation in the electricity department though the BC population was 52 per cent. BCs were not given key posts like directors and SE, CE and other crucial posts, they said. The BC organisation also wanted an increase in the quota for BCs in local body elections from 33 to 50 per cent.

The chief minister assured them that BCs would be given due representation in future postings.
