Washington, January 09: US President Barack Obama says that the road to economic recovery has never been straight in reaction to a newly released report of more job losses.
“The jobs numbers that were released by the Labor Department are a reminder that the road to recovery is never straight and that we have to continue to work to get our economy moving again,” Obama said on Friday.
The US president made the comments after new data showed 85,000 job losses percent in December with the unemployment rate remaining at a steady 10, cooling optimism that the labor market is recovering.
Obama went on to say that the report underscores the fact that the White House must continue to explore every avenue to accelerate the return to hiring.
According to the US Labor Department, the world’s largest economy has made its first gain in two straight years by adding 4,000 jobs.
Economists, however, painted a gloomier picture, forecasting a flat reading for payrolls, with the jobless rate ticking up to 10.1 percent.
Obama also noted that the US has been outpaced by other nations, specifically China, in producing clean energy.
