Tehran, November 16: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says that the media of the Asia-Pacific region can play a more influential role through increasing their interaction.
He made the remarks in a meeting with the participants of a meeting of the Organization of the Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) in Tehran on Sunday.
“The characteristics of the Eastern media in their news reporting are disseminating correct and accurate news aimed at boosting friendships and peace, as well as respecting all nations,” Ahmadinejad stated.
He noted that the Western media often reverse the place of the oppressor and the oppressed in news reports and balme the victim, saying the Western news coverage of the atrocities committed by the Israelis against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank are examples of this.
“The media play a unique role in interactions among nations. Obtaining information and making use of it is one of the basic needs of people. Proper information can result in proper interaction among nations,” Ahmadinejad observed.
Representatives of 41 news agencies attended OANA’s 31st Executive Board Meeting (EBM) and the 25th Editorial-Technical Experts Group (ETEG) Meeting, which was hosted by Iran’s Mehr News Agency in Tehran on Sunday.
