New Zealand’s oldest state secondary school, Nelson College has reportedly launched its own smartphone app that provides students with updates about their school timetable and further events.
Deputy headmaster Tim Tucker said that the Nelson College App has been designed to improve communication channels between the school, its students, their parents, and the wider college community.
According to stuff.co.nz, the app allows users to view their timetable before class, see the school’s calendar of important events, and get to know in advance what’s on sale at the canteen, apart from essential school information like daily notices and uniform code.
Tucker said that the goal is to communicate with students and their parents using their own media, adding that the college campus is connected to high-speed wireless internet that students are encouraged to tap into to assist with their learning.
The app is also expected to have untapped potential for use during a natural disaster too, with the ability to send parents and caregivers push-notifications that would immediately alert and update them in an emergency.
Users can download the Nelson College App for Android and iOS phones from their respective app store. (ANI)
