NYPD, CIA partner to spy on Muslims

New York, September 02: The New York Police Department (NYPD) and the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) partner in a program devised to spy on the Muslims around the country.

The project also known as the Demographics Unit hires a team of NYPD officials and a CIA officer also known as, the Associated Press reported.

The squad is focusing on the nationals of 28 countries, nearly all of which are Muslim.

Accordingly, multilingual undercover NYPD police officers known as the rakers would secretly monitor the Muslims living in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. They would detect the places, where Muslims socialize, pray and eat.

The law enforcement agents have also been authorized to pay visits to and eavesdrop at Islamic bookstores, cafes, businesses, and clubs to glean information on individuals.

The CIA’s contribution to the program has raised eyebrows since it is not allowed to lead espionage missions focusing on domestic matters.

Also rendering the project illegal is the police’s not being allowed to send undercover agents to communities, unless they receive an allegation or indication of criminal activity.
