Nursery kissing scandal: Parents withdraw their children

Mumbai, November 09: As school authorities asked for 60 days to act on molestation charges against teacher, vexed parents are taking their kids out of the nursery

Parents of children in the Euro Kids nursery in Versova, unsettled over the long time the school authorities have asked for to decide on the molestation issue, are now withdrawing their kids from the school.

The heads of the Euro Kids franchise on Yari Road held a meeting with parents on October 27, asking them for 60 days to take a call on a teacher who allegedly molested children and taught them how to French kiss. (‘Kissing scandal rocks posh school’, MiD DAY, October 22, 2010).

Upset with what they perceive as a long time to give the results of their investigation in the matter, or take any direct action against the accused teacher, most parents are cancelling their kids’ admission in the school.

A concerned mother said, “I have withdrawn my child from the school because the school head is refusing to lodge a police complaint against the teacher. Instead, they are taking more time for investigation.”

Some 11 kids from nursery, four from playschool, and a few others are withdrawing and enrolling in other pre-schools like Brainworks and Kidzee, parents said.

Parent says
Said another parent, “The school is trying to buy time. We don’t understand why they called a meeting if they wanted to just declare forming a team to investigate the matter. We want immediate results, not a lengthy procedure that will put our child again in a trauma or remind them of the molestation again and again. After withdrawing our child, we are now wondering if the school will refund the fees as they taught sex education to our tiny tots instead of poetry.”

In the meeting, the parents were told that the school would put in place a panel including a psychiatrist who will speak to the children in front of their parents and try to investigate the matter.

Another parent said, “The school just wasted our time without giving any result. We expected an immediate action. One of the parents even suggested that they provide a psychiatrist that is known to the parents. But the school replied that they have already short-listed some psychiatrist. Due to this attitude, most parents have withdrawn their kids from the school, including me, and some are thinking of it.”
