Nun, Crime Branch fail to attend identification parade

Phulbani (Orissa), March 08: A nun who was allegedly raped in 2008 and Crime Branch officials failed to attend an identification parade at a jail in Kandhamal district today.

Baliguda sub-divisional judicial magistrate Dolagobinda Barik had summoned the Catholic nun to attend the parade to identify a youth arrested in connection with the alleged rape that took place on August 25, 2008.

The youth, Gururam Patra, was arrested recently.

The 29-year-old nun who had earlier attended two identification parades in Cuttack, failed to go to the sub-jail in Kandhamal, official sources said.

The victim had earlier moved the Orissa High Court seeking permission to shift the venue of the parade from Kandhamal to Cuttack.

While 19 people have so far been arrested, Crime Branch, which also failed to attend the parade, was in search of two others, they said.
