A large number of Telugu Desam Party activists, MLAs, admirers and family members paid rich tributes to TDP founder and former chief minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) on his 18th death anniversary here on Saturday.
Popularly called as NTR, the former chief minister was a most popular actor-turned-politician and one of the most popular leaders in the State’s history. The party leaders, admirers and his divided family members paid tributes to him at NTR Ghat on the banks of Hussain Sagar lake here on Saturday morning.
NTR’s son-in-law and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, his wife Bhuvaneshwari, son Lokesh Naidu, NTR’s second wife Lakshmi Parvathi, daughter and Union minister Daggubati Purandeswari, her her husband and Congress MLA Daggubati Venkateshwara Rao, NTR’s son Nandamuri Harikrishna, grandsons Junior NTR, Kalyan Ram, party MLAs Paritala Sunitha, Devineni Uma Maheshwara Rao, Dhulipalla Narendra and others paid tributes.
Speaking on the occasion, the TDP chief eulogized NTR as Messaiah of the Poor as he always strove for Telugu pride and successfully brought glory Telugus all over the world. Recalling the services of NTR, Naidu said the legendary personality always advocated Telugu self-respect and fought for it till his last breathe. Calling upon people
to teach a fitting lesson to those parties which were indulging in corrupt practices and minting money, Naidu said TDP was following the footsteps of NTR and asked people to support value-based politics. Later, he participated in all-religions prayer meeting and distributed blankets to physically handicapped persons.
Later, Chandrababu Naidu flagged off “Amara Jyothi” rally at NTR statue at Rasoolpura in Secunderabad in the presence of party leaders and activists. Speaking on the occasion, the TDP supremo said the ensuing general elections are only 90 days away exhorted party workers to leave no stone unturned for the handsome victory of the party.
