Hyderabad, February 27: The Indian Government had approved dual citizenship to all overseas Indians who have been living outside the country and had decided to implement it but the government’s intention of not including Non Residents Indians in census generates suspicion. Country’s population, various religions existing in the country, people belonging to various castes and language are counted through census. The welfare schemes are formulated taking census into account.
By not including Indians residing in foreign countries in census enumeration it seems that it is being tried to keep them away from census enumeration in a planned manner. A large number of Muslims are strengthening country’s finances through foreign currency by serving in Gulf countries. Inspite of that not including them in the enumeration is regrettable.
Welfare schemes provided by the government prove fruitful especially for American and European NRIs, while bank officials show reluctance in providing loan to NRIs serving in Gulf countries. They feel that NRIs serving in Gulf countries are doing so temporarily but no one can deny the fact that foreign currency reaches India mainly from Gulf countries.
Citizens have appealed Commissioner GHMC and concerned officials to take measures for including NRIs in the census enumeration so that the correct number of all Indian citizens could be brought to light.
