NRI litigant throws acid on High Court lawyers in court room

London, June 25: A non-resident Indian litigant threw acid at three lawyers after a High Court ruling went against him in a racial discrimination case, a jury heard today.

Ashok Mahajan, 54, went berserk inside the Royal Courts of Justice here as justice Underhill delivered the ruling against him.

Mahajan threw a bottle of corrosive liquid at barrister Richard Liddell, solicitor Claire White and trainee lawyer Lucy Colter, the Southwark Crown Court heard.

Colter screamed in pain when she was hit in the eyes and acid that landed on her leg burned her thighs, the court heard.

According to the Mail online, fumes filled the court leaving staff struggling for breath and forcing the judge to flee.

In a tape recording of the incident, Mahajan could be heard abusing the lawyers after the judgement.

Colter told police he sprayed acid at them quite a few times. “The liquid rained around us and was all up my right leg and over my right arm,” she said.

Mahajan was immediately detained by the security staff.

“I was trying to blind them… they’re all Nazis,” said Mahajan when questioned.
