NRI arrested for exploiting 20 girls with marriage dreams

Ahmedabad, October 09: Shrenik Pundit, a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) from Sydney tried to do what Yogesh Patel did in the Priyanka Chopra-starrer What’s Your Rashi, but with a different intention. Pundit, father of a daughter, met around 20 girls in the state, promised to marry them and allegedly indulged in sexual activities. He was arrested by the city crime branch on Wednesday evening.

In his recent trip to India, Pundit even married a girl in a temple and met many other girls in hotels. Pundit, who works as mechanical engineer in Sydney, promised the girls a lavish lifestyle there.

Assistant commissioner of police, DCB, Usha Rada told that Pundit was nabbed following complaints lodged by his victims. She also contacted other girls and alerted them about Pundit’s nefarious activities. The NRI is currently living with his parents in Jay Shefali Raw House in Satellite.

“Ten girls from the city approached us with complaints against Pundit, who wanted to have sexual relationships with them after promising to marry them,” Rada said. “He even married a girl in Ahmedabad, who is working as a call centre executive,” she said.

After marrying the girl, Pundit started avoiding her and stopped answering her calls. “The girl later became suspicious and browsed through Pundit’s mobile call details,” Rada told. Rada further said that the girl called all the numbers dialled by Pundit and found that Pundit had cheated many innocent girls.

“He was in contact with as many as 20 Indian girls – 17 from Gujarat and three from Mumbai,” police inspector, DCB, KK Patel said. “He had registered as Rohit Patel on a marriage website with a dummy photo,” Patel said.

“He had informed the girls that he will be in Gujarat from September 15 onwards and fixed appointments with them on different dates,” a crime branch source said.
