NREGS wages to be hiked by 60 pc: Vatti

Sangareddy, April 24: Minister for rural development Vatti Vasanth Kumar has said wages for the NREGS labourers would be hiked in May in the wake of sweltering heat.

Kumar, accompanied by local minister V Sunita Reddy, participated in Prajapatham gram sabhas in various villages of Narsapur constituency today.

Speaking at the gram sabhas in Dhonti and Pothulaboguda villages of Sivampet mandal, the minsiter said the mercury levels were likely to soar further in May. In view of this, the labourers will be paid 60 per cent additionally if they did work worth Rs 100, he said. Orders to this effect have been sent to officials of all the districts in the State.

Claiming that the Congress Government has been implementing the NRE G scheme successfully, the Minister warned of strict action if officials resorted to malpractices in enforcing it.

He directed DWMA project director Anuradha Reddy to take stringent action against erring officials.

Prajapatham had been introduced by late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, six years ago with an idea to reach to the people in time of need. Through this programme, people’s problems will be known discussed and resolved immediately, if possible.

Present Chief Minister K Rosaiah is also treading the same path shown by his predecessor, he remarked.

District Collector S Suresh Kumar was also present.

Later, Minister Vatti Vasanth Kumar laid stone for Kasturba School in Gollapalli village in Sivampet mandal.
