Minister for Rural Development and NREGS Dokka Manikya Vara Prasad on Tuesday stated that the government would increase man days from 100 to 150 under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to provide employment to labourers in the drought affected mandals.
Talking to media persons at the State Secretariat after meeting Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the minister said that the NREGS works got delayed as the officials were yet to ascertain the drought affected mandals in the State. Stating that the government’s move would benefit lakhs of farm labourers in the State, he expressed confidence that the officials would prepare the list of drought hit mandals by the end of this month facilitating the government to take a decision.
“Once the list is prepared the government will send it to Centre for its approval and take a decision on implementing NREGS works,” the minister said. Nearly Rs 400 crore works would be taken up under the NREGS in the drought affected mandals, he said.
