New Delhi: Amidst CAA-NRC unrest in India, the Cabinet has cleared National Population Register(NPR) scheduled to be conducted between 2020 and 2021.
The Government has also allotted Rs 13,000 for NPR as well as 16th Census announced Union minister Prakash Javadekar today, Indiatoday reports.
The Union Minister, however, stated no documents will be required for the NPR claims which are difficult to believe after what happened with Aadhar and money bill along with CAA and NRC.
Prakash Javadekar said no documents will be required for the NPR and “whatever the public says, will be accepted”.
The NPR is a list of “usual residents” of the country he said. A “usual resident” is defined for the purposes of NPR as a person who has resided in a local area for the past six months or more or a person who intends to reside in that area for the next six months or more.
The NPR last was conducted in 2010 along with the house-listing phase of Census of India 2011.
“NPR was done first in 2010 and Manmohan Singh himself distributed the national identity cards. In 2015, NPR was updated,” said Prakash Javadekar.
