Lucknow :A couple from Uttar Pradesh who claim that they are the parents of Geeta, the mute and deaf girl who returned to India recently from Pakistan, today arrived here seeking to meet her and said they were ready to undergo a DNA test.Geeta, who landed in Pakistan accidentally as a child and stayed there for over 10 years, is now lodged at an institution here for those suffering from hearing and speech impairment.
Ramraj Gautam (45) and his wife Anara Devi, hailing from Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, claimed that Geeta was their daughter and her original name was Savita.
“I am sure that Geeta is my daughter Savita who went missing from my brother-in-law’s ashram at Chhapra in Bihar 11 years ago. I and my wife are ready to undergo DNA test to prove our claim,” Gautam told PTI.
Stating that his wife’s brother was a monk, he said, “I had kept my daughter in his ashram for treatment. She was eight-year-old when she went missing.”
“We are going to contact the Indore collector, P Narhari, to seek permission to meet Geeta,” he added.
Geeta was reportedly only 7-8 years old when she was found sitting alone on the Samjhauta Express at Lahore Station by the Pakistan Rangers 15 years ago.
She was adopted by Edhi Foundation’s Bilquis Edhi and lived with her in Karachi. She returned to India on October 26.
