Now, plan for integrated transport system

Hyderabad, August 03: After an incomplete MMTS and yet-to-take off-Metro Rail project, the State Government is contemplating developing an integrated transport project connecting road and railway networks in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Area (HMDA).

Officials of the Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (In- CAP) have been entrusted the task of conducting a detailed study and come up with a project report.

According to the officials, the government planned to develop an Express Rail Link project to connect the old airport at Begumpet with the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad. However, the officials felt that the project was financially not viable and less useful.

“The government felt the need for a high-speed rail link along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) with necessary radial connectivity to the city and also to the International Airport at Shamshabad. This would be more convenient and useful for public living in different parts of the city,’’ said a senior official in the InCAP.

The proposed project will be designed to meet the future requirements of the city for efficient road and railway network connectivity. It will also connect the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to the city centre and other places including the existing railway stations, proposed Metro Rail and MMTS stations. The comprehensive plan will be developed in partnership with the railways to ensure that the existing rail infrastructure is integrated along with providing connectivity to the International Airport from all areas in HMDA limits.

“The project estimations will be prepared only after submission of the comprehensive project report.

Though the project will take time for completion, it is aimed to meet future needs of the city,’’ said the official.

The InCAP has been allowed to hire internationally reputed consultants to prepare a foolproof project plan.
