Hyderabad, October 09 (Siasat News): Andhra Pradesh Wakf Board which is infamous for not solving the problems of those who are alive, let alone the solution of the problems who are dead.
However, if the palms of the officials of the Wakf Board are suitably greased, one can own any wakf property. Hyderabad is a greater city where various cemeteries are there for the burial. But alas! A time has come where the deads cannot get just 6 meters land.
It is to be recalled here that Siasat Daily had started a campaign in 2003 where unclaimed bodies of the Muslims were obtained from the mortuaries of city’s various hospitals and were buried with utmost dignity. Earlier, all unclaimed bodies were either put to flames or handed over to the hospitals for the learning doctors for to provide the know-how of human body.
The Siasat Daily, during the last seven years, has managed the burial of approximately 750 unclaimed bodies with Islamic rituals as the Wakf Board had provided the burial ground at Qabrastan Janallah Shah near Afzalgunj.
Those were the days when the affairs of the said graveyard was being looked after by the committee comprising of the local traders. Not only the burial ground was provided, but also the secretary of the committee Mr. Nayeemuddin and his associates used to make it appoint to attend the burial in person.
The scene is totally changed now as with the co-operation of some corrupt officials of the Wakf Board and taking the matter to the court, the hierarchy of the graveyard is undertaken and the mutawwali is allegedly trying to earmark a particular corner of the ground for the burial of his family members. Not only this, they also want to construct shops on the burial ground, which is facing the road in order to earn money in the form of the rents.
The place where 750 burials had already taken place, the mutawwali is denying to allot new place for the burial saying that all burials should take place in the old graves. This episode was brought to the notice of the Wakf Board also but there was a mysterious silence.
Strangely enough, now Mr. Zahid Mahmood, the supervisor appointed by Siasat Millat fund for the burial of unclaimed bodies, is once again being pressurized to bury the bodies in the old graves.
In this connection, Siasat has started its efforts to find out another graveyard and urged the Wakf Board officials to identify the substitute graveyards for the burial but all in vain. If this’ll continue, the unclaimed bodies would get putrid in the mortuaries.
It is therefore, the duty of the minister of minority welfare Mr. Mohd. Ahmedullah Khan to intervene and clear the way for the burial of the unclaimed bodies of the unfortunate Muslims.
