Now this newly elected BJP MLA wants to rename ‘Deoband’

DEOBAND:  As the saffronist party take over Uttar Pradesh in Assembly election 2017, venom spitting against minority community touches to the fore.

In the latest, the newly elected BJP MLA from Deoband Brijesh Singh called for renaming the historical Deoband constituency to Deovrind citing its association with Maharabharat.

Singh, who has won the Muslim-dominated seat in Saharanpur district of North Uttar Pradesh, explained to the media that Deoband which is a home to the Darul Uloom, the largest Islamic seminary in India is sacred for Hindus and that he only want the town to get that identity back.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Singh said: “Deoband is just a perception as this town is always famous as Dev Vrand only. We have Mahabharat’s Rankhandi here and the five Pandavas have worshiped here in Dev Vrand. Even the village named as Jarwala is actually Yakshawala and is the same place where ‘Yaksha’ has questioned Yudhisthir.”

“Meri Muslim behne Modi ji ke sath hai aur woh bhi chahti hain ki teen Talaq band ho,” he said without even giving a thought that whether his “Muslim Behan are with him on changing the Deoband name to Dev Brand”.
