Now ‘microchips’ for pet dogs in Kochi

Kochi: The Kochi Corporation has begun a novel initiative of fitting microchips to all pet dogs in the city as part of its initiative to introduce a licensing system for all pet dogs in the city.

The program was first official launched at the Kochi Corporation office by the Mayor Saumini Jain and other municipal members.

All the details of the pet including their ownership, age, dates of vaccinations etc. will be available in the chip, which can be read using a hand-held scanner.

The civic authorities said that separate software and database will be maintained and it will be made sure that all the pet dogs under the city limit will be covered under this program.

According to an estimate there are around 12,000 pet dogs in the city.

In the first phase of the programme, 500 dogs will be microchipped and a fee of Rs.100 will be charged from the dog owner. (ANI)
