Now Konda Surekha fires her salvo against Sonia

Hyderabad, February 10: After the recent outburst against Mrs. Sonia Gandhi by CWC member Mr. G. Venkatswamy, it is now the turn of former State Congress minister Mrs. Konda Surekha to cause ripples in political circles by spewing venom against the AICC President.

In a strongly worded nine-page letter to Mrs. Sonia Gandhi sent on Wednesday, Mrs. Surekha, a known loyalist of Mr. Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, virtually endorsed the comments made by Mr. Venkatswamy, (popularly known as Kaka), and demanded the AICC President to resign forthwith as “she is incompetent and unfit” to hold such an important and responsible post.

The rebel Congress legislator, who has already been served with a show cause notice by the Congress High Command for her tirade against the then Chief Minister Mr. K. Rosaiah and also the AICC President in an earlier letter, by addressing another letter, seems to be sending a strong message to Jagan detractors in the Congress that the loyalists of the former Kadapa MP would not lie low if the unabated vitriolic attack on him does not end.

Mrs. Surekha in a bitter attack on Mrs. Sonia Gandhi accused her of not keeping her promise made to the people of Telangana on the occasion of the latter’s birthday and instead appointing “a useless” Sri Krishna Committee”. Holding the Congress President responsible for the spate of suicides by the students, the rebel Congress legislator charged her of imposing “Italian culture” in India. Accusing Mrs. Sonia Gandhi of playing dirty politics and sticking to power by doling out positions and money to sycophants in the party, she pointed out that despite being Congress loyalists the people would throw her out of power in disgust for her dirty maneuverings. “Even the soul of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi would seethe in pain over your brash politicking”, Mrs. Surekha observed in her letter.

Questioning the veracity in the merger of PRP with Congress, Mrs. Surekha reminded that Mr. Chiranjeevi during the last elections had called upon the PRP workers to “disrobe the corrupt Congress leaders”. How can such a person be welcomed into the Congress fold, she asked. “How a person who had stoutly opposed the love marriage of his daughter can strive for social justice as is being proclaimed”, she wondered.

Resenting the attitude of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi in not granting an audience to a senior leader like Mr. Venkatswamy, she felt that it was nothing but an act of insult and humiliation to the dalits as a whole. She also questioned why a dalit leader from Telangana had not been made a Deputy Chief Minister so far despite repeated assurances.

Mrs. Surekha further asked as to why Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy was made a Chief Minister for a second term if he was a corrupt leader as was being accused day in day out by “vested interests and unscrupulous” leaders in the ruling Congress. If the Congress High Command has unstinted faith in the efficiency and capabilities of Mrs. Kiran Kumar Reddy, let the Assembly be dissolved and let him seek fresh mandate from the people, she challenged.
