Hyderabad, August 10: Now you can get crime updates of the locality in your mobile. The service has been started in Madhapur locality where a resident can visit the local police station and register their name and mobile number.
With the crime rate increasing in the Information Technology (IT) hub of Madhapur, police have come up with the idea of enforcing a project called ‘Crime Prevention- SMS Alert’. It would help to keep a vigilant eye on crime taking place regularly by alerting residents, including IT, realty, banking and other business establishment owners and employees.
“ For the first time, Madhapur police would alert people residing in the locality with crime updates through SMS, such as traffic snarls, theft, road accidents, road rage incidents, cyber crime and others with assistance from the Cyber Security Council (CSC). As soon as we receive information about any crime, we would alert residents where the crime took place by sending SMSs,” said project mentor and inspector of Madhapur police K Srinath Reddy.
The CSC, a prominent IT security agency located in Madhapur would assist the police in providing the technology and preparing a database of the mobile numbers and names of residents.
Srinath Reddy told Expresso that they had collected mobile numbers of various IT, ITES and BPO companies, chief executive officers, bank officials, ATMs, owners of jewellery shops, hotels, restaurants, auto drivers, residents of localities and housing associations, association representatives and school managements.
“We have collected more than 1000 contact numbers and divided them into 20 groups in terms of their business activities. Wherever any crime takes place, we will alert all the group members by sending a SMS. If anybody wants to register their name and mobile number, they can come directly to the police station to enrol their names or call 040-27852916,” he said.
The crime rate has been escalating in the locality as a few inter-state gangs are concentrating on the area. At least 500 crime incidents had been reported in the current year. The project which has been started a month ago would be enforced within six months as a pilot scheme.
