Now cops’ transfers to be monitored using computer programme

New Delhi: Postings of constables and assistant sub-inspectors, which have often come under the police chief’s scanner over alleged favouritism by senior officials, will now be monitored using a computer programme developed by Delhi Police.

The programme ‘Automatic Postings and Transfer’ system has been designed to ensure objective management of large-scale transfers and postings of constables, head constables and ASIs, a process that was earlier managed manually, a senior police official said today.

“The system takes into consideration factors like major and minor punishments, departmental enquiries, out-of-turn promotions received earlier, etc. The aim is to bring objectivity to the transfer process and also reduce paperwork,” the official said.

The subject of posting of officials in the lower rung and alleged favouritism shown to some has often been taken up in meetings chaired by Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi and his predecessors.

“While some officials upto the rank of ASI have allegedly not been moved out for services they rendered to their seniors for years, some have been there in the same police station allegedly protecting criminals for years under instructions of immediate seniors,” the official said.

Many such matters were also taken up by the vigilance branch of Delhi Police.
