Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday criticised the State Government for legislating the SC, ST Sub-Plan.
Addressing the State BJP SC Morcha Convention at party’s State headquarters at Nampally, Venkaiah Naidu said that the the SC, ST Sub-Plan was only approved by the State Cabinet and therefore, it lacks legal status. He said if the government was genuinely serious, then it should have brought legislation for the Sub-Plan.
Venkaiah Naidu said that the condition of Scheduled Castes and Tribes in the State was pathetic, he demanded that the government legislate the SC, ST Sub-Plan on immediate basis. Else, he threatened that the BJP would launch statewide protests.
Addressing the meeting, BJP National Spokesperson Ramnath Kovind accused the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre of adopting dual stand on the Foreign Direct Investment issue. He said that it was the same Congress party that opposed the then BJP-led NDA Government’s proposal to allow FDI. He said that the NDA’s policy
would have created at least five crore jobs in the country. However, he said the Congress party was now trying to implement a distorted version of FDI policy in the country,which could further weaken the economy.
Kovind demanded that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh should explain the reasons that forced the UPA to allow FDI. He also ridiculed the AICC meeting at New Delhi,which he said was primarily being conducted to brief the Congress leaders and workers about the FDI policy.
State BJP President G Kishan Reddy, former union minister Bandaru Dattatreyya, BJP Natiojnal Secretaty Dr K Lakshman and floor leader E Lakshminarayana also spoke.
