GHAZIABAD: 48-year-old aliling Munawwar who went to Delhi hospital for treatment was shot by unidentified assailants in a moving train.
As per a report in Hindustan Times, the incident took place in Ghaziabad on Wednesday evening in the Janta Express when the Munawar was returning from Delhi to Saharanpur of UP.
“The incident took place between Shahdara and Behta in Loni. After the train reached Loni, passengers informed the station officials and told them about an injured man lying in the coach,” said KK Chaudhary, superintendent of police, GRP Moradabad to HT.
It was reported that the violence broke out after an altercation over seat sharing. According to girl’s statements who witness the incident, Munawar was shot while he was sleeping on a berth. After the incident, the accused fled the scene by pulling a chain at the Behta and escaped.
“The caller told us that there was an altercation over seat sharing,” Mohammad Lukman, the victim’s brother-in-law told the paper.
He sustained an gunshot injury on his jaw and was rushed to GTB Hospital in Delhi.
“The doctors performed an operation and Munawwar is stable. He will survive. The statement of the girl helped us know that one man, aged around 22-25 years, fired the shot from the railway platform while the victim was lying on the berth. The girl was travelling along with her parents to Saharanpur and her family tried to stop her from making a statement to police. She still cooperated with us,” said Randhir Singh, circle officer, railway police, Ghaziabad to HT.
The reason behind the incident is not yet known. Munawar’s wife said that the victim’s health is ailing for the past two years and he went to Delhi hospital for heart problems and respiratory issue. He has no rivalry with anyone.
An FIR of attempt to murder was lodged against the unidentified men and hunt is on to nab the culprit who fired the shot.
