Notorious fraudster arrested in Jammu: Police

Srinagar: A man has arrested for allegedly duping several people and attacking police in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said today.

Ghulam Qadir Bhat, a resident of Raithan village of Khansahib, was arrested from Jammu last evening after managing to escape from his house during a police raid 12 days ago by attacking the cops, a police spokesman said.

Terming Bhat a “notorious fraudster”, the spokesman said he was allegedly involved in a number of cases of duping people on the pretext of buying their less-valued orchids for a higher amount, but later skipping with the product without paying them anything except a small amount paid in advance.

The official said several arrest warrants were also issued against the accused by a court in Budgam but he evaded arrest.

“On May 13, a police official went to his village to execute warrant but he misbehaved with him. On this, Station House Officer Police station Khansahib along with police party reached his home, but the accused along with his relatives and neighbours attacked the police party and did not allow them to perform their official duty,” the spokesman said.

Bhat was on run since then, the official added.
